Toby Keith describes ‘roller coaster’ journey after cancer diagnosis as he receives Country Icon Award

Toby Keith opened up about his challenging journey after being diagnosed with cancer before receiving the Country Icon Award at the recent People’s Choice Country Awards.

At 62, Keith mentioned in an interview with E! News that his experience felt like a “roller coaster.” Diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2021, he has faced fluctuating days during his treatment. However, he remains optimistic, saying that he felt well that particular day. Earlier in June, he shared positive news about the reduction in his tumor’s size.

The renowned “Red Solo Cup” artist was honored with the Country Icon Award and performed his song, “Don’t Let the Old Man In.” His wife, Tricia Lucus, was visibly moved during the performance.

While accepting the award, Keith expressed gratitude to his family, team, and especially his fans for their unwavering support. Reflecting on his 30-year-long career in music during the E! News chat, Keith was astonished by his journey and the memories of each song he created.
